Most consonants are pronounced as they would be in English, but note the following:
- bh is pronounced v
- dh is pronounced th as in THat
- g is always hard, as in go.
- gh is pronounced ch as in loch.
- th is pronounced th as in THin.
- sc is pronounced sh as in SHape.
The vowels and dipthongs have the following pronounciations:
- a is pronounced as in tap, or father at end of a word or before r.
- e is pronounced as in bet, or as a in cake at the end of a word.
- i is pronounced as in pin.
- o is pronounced as in hot, or phone at end of a word.
- u is pronounced as oo in book.
- y is pronounced as i in machine, never as in my.
- ae is pronounced as i in mine.
- ah is pronounced as in father.
- ea is pronounced as two separate syllables, eh-a.
- eg is pronounced as in a in cake, except at the end of a word, when the 'G' becomes a normal consonant.
- oa is pronounced as in road.
- oi is pronounced as in coin.
- ou is pronounced as in loud.
