An Englishman In Medecia
Preface by the Author
How I came to find myself in Medecia is a story in its own right, and I hope you will forgive me for not telling it to you. There are no ships which sail from the seas of our Earth to the seas of Medecia, and there are no tourist companies selling package tours to this place (however lucrative that might be!) so any account of how I came to be here would be of no use to anyone who might want to follow me.
Let me just say that through a chance combination of circumstances I found myself in Medecia, as the guest of one Graegor Pendrake, a sorceror of some reknown (not that he boasted of it, but in my travels I often found that simply mentioning his name and the fact that I was acquainted with him was enough to smooth my way). At the time he was living in semi-retirement in his castle, Ros Pendrake, which is why this account of Medecia starts in that particular place.
